Matt Hancock says ‘precious’ PPE is being WASTED as he issues new guidelines to NHS staff

Matt Hancock announced during Friday’s daily coronavirus briefing from Downing Street new guidelines will be issued on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The Health Secretary said the Government has focused on building a new logistic network to ensure all social care professionals received the protective supplies needed to look after COVID-19 patients. Mr Hancock said the new regulation will set out specifications on who requires the PPE to avoid waste of gear.

Mr Hancock insisted the protection equipment provided should only be used when there is a “clinical need” and urged NHS staff not to use “more than needed.”

The Tory frontbencher also renewed calls for Britons to remain home during the Easter weekend to help ease the pressure medical professionals have been facing.

He said: “This Easter will be another test of the nation’s resolve. It’s a time of year when people normally come together.

“But however warm the weather, however tempting your local beach or park, we need everyone to stay at home.
