The store will axe the labels from 85 percent of commonly binned items, such as grapes, potatoes and broccoli.
Instead, staff will use a code to ensure quality and freshness is maintained.
M&S said research shows an estimated 6.6 million tonnes of food is scrapped each year.
Andrew Clappen, its director of food tech, said: “We need to do all we can to make sure none of it gets thrown away.”
