Map shows where 'danger to life' Storm Agnes is expected to batter the UK
Most parts of the UK are set to be battered by 80mph strong winds and heavy rain as Storm Agnes hits tomorrow with a ‘danger to life’ warning.
The map shows most western regions of the UK will be hit by Agnes which is the first named storm of the season.
On coastal parts 80mph winds could be possible, with gusts of 50 to 60mph expected inland.
Heavy rainfall will mainly hit Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and northern England, with the chance of 60mm of rain in some parts of Scotland.
A yellow weather warning for wind covers much of the UK between noon on Wednesday and 7am on Thursday except for the south east of England.
Another yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for parts of Scotland between 9pm on Wednesday and 6am on Thursday.
The storm could mean the potential for some damage to buildings from strong winds, as well as the possibility of power cuts for some.
Transport disruption is also expected, with airports likely to face disruption and some roads and bridges are likely to close.
Stephen Dixon, from the Met Office, said: ‘The west of Wales could see about 20mm of rain and towards the south west (of the UK) a little bit less, but these showers could be fairly heavy in nature. Northern Ireland could see an excess of 30mm of rainfall in a relatively short period of time.
‘There’s still some uncertainty on the exact track and positioning, and the strength of Storm Agnes as it moves in from the west. Stay up to date with the latest warnings because they’re fairly likely to be amended.’
Looking towards the weekend more settled weather is expected after Storm Agnes is expected to weaken on Thursday.
Agnes has formed as a result of a tropical storm across the east coast of the US causing a jet stream to rumble across the Atlantic.
