Manhunt for thug who held knife to baby’s throat and robbed gran

Police are hunting for a man ‘with very bad teeth’ who threatened a baby with a blade as he robbed his grandmother.

The woman in her fourties was out for a stroll with her 19-month-old grandson between 5pm and 6pm yesterday when the assailant struck.

He pulled out a knife and held it to the baby’s throat after the woman refused to hand over her purse.

She gave him what he wanted and the man ran off without harming the baby.

The terrifying robbery took place in a wooded area in Normanby, Middlesbrough.

Police say the suspect is an Asian male with ‘very bad teeth’, a ‘foreign accent’ and black hair.

He’s thought to be in his early to mid twenties, of a medium build, around 6ft tall.

He is said to have been wearing a black tracksuit with one red stripe down the side, a black leather belt with a pouch around his waist and black and gold Nike trainers.

DC Lewis Mackfall of Cleveland Police said: ‘This was clearly a terrifying incident for the victim and very distressing as it involved a threat of violence against her grandchild.’
