Manchester horror: Body of woman found in woods after being ‘set on fire’ in Moston

Emergency services were called to a wooded area off Williams Road on Saturday evening following reports of a person on fire. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrived at the scene shortly after 6pm and made the grim discovery of the body of a woman.

A police spokesman has said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The victim’s age and cause of death remains unknown and will be investigated by the coroner.

A large response team including crews from the Greater Manchester Fire Service and North West Ambulance service were deployed to the scene.

A police cordon was placed in surrounding areas of the woods.

A specialist team of officers were also pictured holding up a white sheet behind some trees.

The force has urged anyone with any information to come forward.

In a statement a spokesman for GMP said: “Police were called around 6.15pm yesterday by the fire service to a report of a fire in a woodland near Williams Road, Moston.

“Emergency services attended and sadly found the body of a woman.

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner.”

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service added: “We were called at 6.01pm to a person on fire in an area of woodland off Williams Road in Moston.

“Initial enquiries suggest a fire in a woodland area which involved a female casualty.”
