Man who heckled Prince Andrew charged with breach of the peace

A man who heckled Prince Andrew in a procession behind the Queen’s coffin in Edinburgh has been charged with breach of the peace.

A member of the public was filmed shouting at the Duke of York: ‘Andrew, you’re a sick old man’, as his mother’s casket travelled down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.

An unnamed 22-year-old man was arrested after the procession yesterday and has now been charged.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said in a statement sent to Metro.co.uk: ‘A 22-year old man was arrested and charged in connection with a breach of the peace on the Royal Mile around 2.50pm on Monday.

‘He was released on an undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.’

Footage showed a man among the crowds shouting at the disgraced duke, who was stripped of his honorary military titles in the wake of the US sex abuse scandal linking him to billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

He was banned from wearing military uniform during the procession on Monday and instead wore a black suit, along with his service medals.

Footage shared on social media showed the alleged heckler being pushed by outraged mourners.

He was tackled to the ground before being dragged away from the metal barriers.

Prince Andrew appeared stony faced moments after the shouts came from the crowd.

A woman who held a banner saying ‘f*** imperialism, abolish the monarchy’ during the Accession Proclamation for the new King in the Scottish capital has also been charged with breach of the peace.

The 22-year-old demonstrator was arrested after being led away by a police officer.
