Man 'takes forklift for a joy ride then mows woman to death and steals her car'
A man allegedly made off with a forklift from Lowe’s Home Improvement and ran over an elderly woman in a Home Depot parking lot and stole her car.
Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, 20, broke into a Lowe’s at 12.40am on Sunday, got on a forklift and rammed through the rear gates of the business with it, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Brown then entered the parking lot of a Home Depot on Jefferson Farm Place in Waldorf, Maryland, and ‘for unknown reasons, he rammed a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot’, stated the sheriff’s office.
‘A woman, who was asleep in the car, got out when the forklift struck her car and began running away,’ wrote the sheriff’s office on Facebook.
‘Brown followed her, struck her with the forklift and ran over her, and then stole the victim’s car and fled.’
Officers initially responded to a burglary and theft in progress at the Lowe’s on the 2500 block of Crain Highway. While canvassing the area, they found the forklift in the Home Depot car park and discovered the woman underneath it, according to the sheriff’s office. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman has been identified as Gloristine Pinkney, 73, of Waldorf.
There is no information suggesting that Brown and Pinkney knew each other.
Detectives arrested Brown on Sunday evening and recovered Pinkney’s vehicle close to his home.
‘After pursuing leads, detectives were able to positively identify Brown as the suspect,’ stated the sheriff’s office.
Brown, of Waldorf, has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault and theft, among other charges. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center with no bond.
An investigation into the incident continues.
Waldorf is part of south Maryland and is about 60 miles south of Baltimore.
