A man who stalked and threatened his ex-wife over the raising of their child has been imprisoned.

A court heard how Mohamed Bashir El Nabuli told the mother of his son that he would “throw acid” at her and kill her.

The 40-year-old from Queens Park Gardens, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to the stalking offence after appearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on Wednesday, October 26, reports Dorset Live.

Prosecuting, Thomas Acworth told the court how El Nabuli was furious with the family court’s decision in March to bar him from seeing his son.

That order was made following a previous attempt to abduct him and take the child to Libya and a domestic violence offence against his ex-partner.

He took this anger out on his former partner, whom he barraged with texts and calls.

Mr Acworth told the court how the victim reported being told down the phone: “You f*****g b**** I’m going to throw acid at you and kill you.”

This detail was contested by the defence, with El Nabuli admitting to calling but not threatening to throw acid. Mr Recorder Malcom Gibney, the sentencing judge, accepted this.

El Nabuli also went to his former partner’s home in Bournemouth, in breach of court orders, slashed her tyres, and called her on several other occasions between March 14 and April 2.

The day after he slashed her tyres, on March 30, El Nabuli called again and said: “You f*****g b***h why don’t you let me see my son?

“You saw what happened yesterday, and now it’s going to get worse. I swear I’ll stab you.”

The final offence, on April 1, saw El Nabuli try to get into the woman’s car as she picked their son up from school in Winton, Dorset.

The court heard how she was left in “abject terror” as he pulled on the door handle.

Mr Acworth detailed that the family court order which sparked the stalking came after two offences by El Nabuli in 2015.

The first was one of battery on his then-partner following the breakdown of their relationship, which had happened over a dispute over what religion to raise the child in.

In 2015, El Nabuli attempted to flee the UK with the boy to Libya, the 40-year-old’s country of origin.

He was subsequently convicted of this abduction offence in British courts.

Defending El Nabuli, Timothy Compton said “cultural differences” had led to the breakdown of the relationship and subsequent issues between the defendant and his victim.

He told the court: “This is a case where a Polish lady married a Muslim gentleman, culturally worlds apart. It got to the stage where a man was not being allowed to see his son.

“The position between them was perhaps more nuanced than the papers in a criminal case would suggest.

“The cultural differences do not excuse his behaviour but do go a long way to explain it.

“One matter that caused him difficulty was his ex-wife’s disregard of his beliefs.

“It’s something which does occur in these types of cases.”

El Nabuli was handed a prison sentence of 15 months, prevented from contacting his ex-wife by a five-year restraining order, and must pay various charges including compensation and a victim surcharge.

Mr Gibney said in summary: “The impact of your conduct on your former partner was intended to cause maximum fear or distress.

“It’s clear these calls were intended to put her in considerable fear.”
