A MAN has pleaded guilty to attempting to poison a fellow worker following a dispute at the firm where they both worked.

Thomas Lynch (42) appeared before Cork Circuit Criminal Court on a single charge of attempting to administer a substance to a colleague knowing or being reckless as to whether it could cause him harm.

The incident complained of occurred on May 23 2018 at an address in east Cork.

Lynch of Lisgoold East, Leamlara, Midleton, Co Cork was working at a data services centre at the time in the east Cork town of Carrigtwohill.

Judge Brian O’Callaghan was not offered detailed evidence of the incident during the brief arraignment.

However, there had been a disagreement between the defendant and a male work colleague before the incident at the centre of the charge.

Lynch, who appeared in court wearing slacks and a grey sports top, did not speak beyond confirming his plea.

Defence counsel, Tim O’Leary SC, applied to the court for the matter to be adjourned.

He explained he was not applying for a Probation and Welfare Service (PWS) report on his client.

However, he said he felt sentencing would require a detailed psychological report.

Mr O’Leary said he felt this was appropriate given the nature of the offence which his client had pleaded guilty to.

He said it was vital the court obtain a professional insight into the precise circumstances of the matter and the behaviour involved.

Judge O’Callaghan granted the application for an adjournment.

He remanded Lynch to appear before Cork Circuit Criminal Court on June 28 next.

Judge O’Callaghan also directed that a victim impact statement be prepared for the next hearing.

Gardaí had no objection to bail and Lynch was remanded on bail to appear again next month.
