Man on £200,000 who crashed Ferrari whines about using Ubers during driving ban

A wealthy businessman who carelessly crashed his Ferrari into parked cars has complained of having to use Ubers and chauffeurs while he’s banned from driving.

Richard Cullen, 50, lost control of his SF90 hyper car and hit a parked car, causing a chain reaction of crashes which damaged five other cars on a residential road in Halesowen, West Midlands, in May last year.

He then fled the scene and walked off to the town centre, failing to call police until the following day.

Cullen’s lawyers told the court he had only driven the car twice and accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

They argued he only left the scene because of the ‘hostility and aggression’ of witnesses who ‘converged on him’ and started swearing at him.

But the owner of one of the damaged cars accused him of driving ‘recklessly’ and showing ‘arrogance’ in the aftermath.

The court was told he didn’t ring police at first because he was expecting them to call him.

Cullen was slapped with a 12-month driving ban after admitting careless driving and failing to stop after a road accident.

Jason Aris, defending, said the father-of-six was now going to ‘struggle significantly’ with travelling between his various businesses, which include a pest control firm, despite earning around £216,000 a year.

Mr Aris estimated his client’s income at £18,000 a month and his outgoings at £20,500, claiming his wife contributes to household expenses.

He added: ‘[Cullen] does not have an argument under exceptional hardship but he is going to have to employ drivers and utilise taxis and Ubers which are going to come at considerable expense to him.

‘He is going to struggle quite significantly during work hours.’

Cullen, from Romsley, Worcestershire, was fined £10,069 based on his means and ordered to pay £185 costs as well as a £190 victim surcharge.
