Man knocked out by total strangers when he answered door late one evening

A man was left with serious facial injuries after being knocked out on his doorstep.

The victim, who wants to remain anonymous, was assaulted after answering the door to unknown people at his home in Sixhills Street, Grimsby, at 10pm on Thursday.

The 48-year-old man, who allowed images of his injuries to be published, said he woke up covered in blood in his kitchen after being beaten unconscious.

Humberside Police have arrested a woman, 53, on suspicion of assault and possession of Class A drugs.

The force has also appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The victim told the Hull Daily Mail: ‘I don’t know how many there were at the door but the next thing I knew I was coming round on the kitchen floor.

‘I don’t know what they used, probably their feet.’

The man was taken to hospital in an ambulance after he called 999, with doctors later stitching up cuts on his head.

His face was covered in bruises and he suffered a black eye but said he’d be fine.

The resident, who lives alone, added he felt confident he could look after himself after being discharged from hospital.

He said police interviewed him and took photographs of his injuries.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers are currently investigating a reported assault after we were called to an incident on Sixhills Street, Grimsby at approximately 10pm yesterday (Thursday, September 30).

‘A man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a serious head injury which is thankfully not thought to be life threatening.

‘A 53-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of A class drugs and remains in police custody.’

A scene guard was put in place at the victim’s home while officers continue with lines of enquiry.
