An Alabama man was sentenced to life in prison for breaking out of prison with the help of a corrections officer in 2022.

Casey White, 39, was given a life sentence for the brazen jailbreak that took place in April 2022 with the help of Vicky White, a prison guard who he claimed fell in love with him.

Last month, White accepted a plea deal that saw him plead guilty to charges of first-degree prison escape in exchange for prosecutors dropping charges for felony murder of his former lover.

‘I feel like the most hated man in the world,’ White said in a statement to the court. ‘I loved Vicky and I wouldn’t drag her name through the mud for anyone in this courtroom.’

Before the jailbreak, Casey was already facing a sentence of 75 years in prison for a litany of charges dating back to a crime spree in 2015, including attempted murder.

Vicky, the former assistant director of the Lauderdale County Jail, helped Casey escape from the facility in Florence, Alabama on April 29, 2022.

That morning, she escorted Casey to a police vehicle in the parking lot. She told other staff at the jail that she was taking the prisoner to a court-ordered mental health evaluation, then simply drove off.

The Whites were on the run for 11 days, staying ahead of investigators by frequently switching cars. Police eventually tracked them down to Evansville, Indiana.

After a brief car chase, Casey was captured, but Vicky died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

After turning himself in, Casey told the investigators that him and Vicky had fallen in love and were planning a new life together.

‘Vicky took me out because she said, “right was right. Wrong is wrong,”‘ Casey told the court on Thursday. ‘First person to show me affection. First person to give me a hug in six years.’

Casey also apologized again to Vicky’s family, telling them that she regretted leaving them to go on the run. ‘That’s the only thing she ever regretted,’ White told the court.

Lauderdale County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Graves handed down Casey’s life sentence, but told the jailbreaker he hoped he would receive grace in his confession.

‘You are not the most hated man in America, but you have taken legal responsibility for this crime,’ Judge Graves said.

Casey is still facing another murder charge for the fatal stabbing of Connie Ridgeway, dating back to this crime spree in 2015. His trial is scheduled for August 14, 2023.

He also recently confessed to murdering another woman and baby girl in Evansville, Indiana during his 11 days on the run in 2022.

‘There is a dead body up there that ain’t been buried yet,’ he told NewsNation on Wednesday.

However, investigators in Indiana believe the murder is fake, and just a ploy to get transferred out of a state with the death penalty.
