Man climbs into speed camera and flashes cars with his phone as part of prank
A husband-and-wife caused drivers to slam the breaks to amuse themselves while waiting to pick up a takeaway pizza.
John Westlake, who was on holiday with his wife Sarah-Jane in north Wales, scaled a speed camera and clambered inside the tiny casing at the top of the pole.
He flashed his phone at passing cars in the seaside town of Towyn, causing panicked drivers to slow down, no matter what speed they were doing.
The parents of two, from the Wirral on Merseyside, found it hilarious, with Sarah-Jane filming John’s antics from the roadside.
She prompted him to cars approaching on his blindside and urged him to ‘flash’.
John, a joiner, said: ‘We were waiting outside for pizzas when I noticed a hole in the back of the speed camera.
‘At that point I thought a funny way of killing some time would be to climb up and flash the passing cars to see if they’d slow down.

‘I just took a run-up and managed to climb in. I was quite surprised the next day, when I saw the speed camera, that I had managed it to be honest.’
The 38-year-old said he even flashed a mobility scooter user during the prank on Thursday.
He said: ‘I flashed one person who went by in a mobility scooter and told them to slow down.
‘We were just having a laugh really. Every car I flashed slowed down afterwards – it kept us entertained when we were waiting for our food.
‘I think people relate to it because no one likes speed cameras.’
Sarah-Jane posted the video to general amusement on Facebook. One friend replied: ‘The things you do when you’re waiting for a kebab that’s taken over three hours.’
But some drivers shared how shocked they would have been if they were the victims of the prank.
One person said: ‘Imagine how much I’d panic if I got flashed when I drive home through Towyn.’
