Man arrested under Terrorism Act in Cardiff after resident reports concerns
A man has been arrested under the Terrorism Act in Cardiff.
The 20-year-old was also held on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.
He was detained in the Cyncoed area of the city on Sunday morning after a resident reported concerns.
South Wales Police said he was arrested under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, on suspicion of engaging in preparing acts of terrorism.
The incident is being jointly investigated with officers from the Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit, a force spokesman said.
The head of that unit, Detective Superintendent Noel Harris, said: “There is no cause for concern amongst the local community and no evidence to suggest otherwise.
“However, I want to take this opportunity to remind our communities to remain vigilant and report any concerns to ensure that Wales remains a safe place to live.”
