Man arrested and charged with 'raping British tourist on holiday in Greece'
A young British woman was allegedly raped while away on holiday in a Greek resort.
The 24-year-old claims a man was physically violent and forced himself on her on Friday.
She said the attack happened close to a bar in Paleros, in the Akti-Vonitsa region in the west of the country.
The alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, reported the rape to the local police.
They launched a manhunt and ended up arresting a 26-year-old man.
He has been charged and is due to appear in court soon.
The alleged victim has not yet undergone a forensic investigation.
This summer has also seen a British dad arrested and accused of raping his own 33-year-old daughter in Greece.
The daughter reported that she had been raped by someone she does not remember because she was drunk, in the town of Malia, on a night out with her dad in June.
But she insists her attacker was not her 62-year-old dad and he does too.
Denying charges of rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence, he told the judge: ‘I could never rape my own daughter. No one could do such a thing. I am not guilty.’
Similarly, his daughter told MailOnline: ‘I can tell you 100% that he did not rape me. I live with my dad in the UK, I was on holiday with him in Greece and he’s the best dad in the world.
‘There is no way he would do something so disgusting. I’ve told the Greek police this, but they are just ignoring me.’
Medical examiners told local newspaper Neakriti that the woman was ‘covered’ in injures that were consistent with stones and branches found on the beach.
They said she also had injuries consistent with rape, and that DNA samples have been collected.
