Man accused of murdering girl, 9, 'slashed and left for dead in prison'

A man accused of stabbing a nine-year-old schoolgirl to death has been ‘slashed’ and ‘battered’ in jail, a report says.

Deividas Skebas, 22, was charged with murdering little Lilia Valutyte in front of her sister last month.

The Lithuanian national was remanded in custody earlier in August, and has been held at HMP Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where the brutal attack reportedly took place.

A source told the Sun that prison guards found the fruit picker in his cell in ‘a very bad way’, having been ‘left for dead’.

‘Skebas was beaten to a pulp and also slashed with a makeshift shank weapon – likely a razor blade in a toothbrush,’ they said.

‘People have been plotting against him for a while and on Sunday they got their chance, with a few running into his cell and ambushing him.

‘There was one bloke who meted out the beating, aided by a couple of others who joined in and kept watch.’

They added: ‘Skebas has had a target on his back since he arrived – and really this attack was only a matter of time.’

He was air-lifted to hospital where he stayed the night before returning to his cell the next day.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: ‘A prisoner at HMP Wakefield was treated in hospital for injuries following an assault by another prisoner.’

But they were unable to comment further while a police investigation is ongoing.

Skebas appeared at Lincoln Crown Court at the beginning of August, accused of Lilia’s murder.

The girl was found bleeding by her mum Lina Savicke moments after the attack outside a café in Boston on July 28.

Police arrested the defendant in the Central Park area of the town three days later.

Up to 750 men are locked up with Skebas in HMP Wakefield, including child sex offenders and serial killers.

Charles Bronson – widely regarded as Britain’s most violent prisoner – also spent decades behind bars there.

Skebas, of Thorold Street, Boston, will next appear in court for a plea hearing on September 19.
