Man accused of killing PCSO Julia James to face trial in November

A man accused of the murder of PCSO Julia James will face trial in November.

Mum-of-two Ms James died of serious head injuries while out walking her dog Toby in Snowdown, Kent, on April 27.

Callum Wheeler, 21, who was charged with murder on Monday, has been remanded in custody.

He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on June 8, before going to trial on November 29.

The suspect was seen poking his tongue out as he was led away by officers after appearing in court for the first time on Tuesday.

Ms James’s heartbroken family has paid tribute to her, saying she was a ‘fiercely loyal’ person who ‘loved with her whole heart’.

In a statement released on Friday, they said: ‘There are no words to adequately describe the void left in our lives by the death of our mum.

‘She was so much to so many people; a wife, mother, daughter, nanny, sister and a friend.

‘Mum was fiercely loyal, she loved with her whole heart and nothing was too much trouble for the people she cared about.’

Her devastated loved ones added: ‘Her loss will be felt by us every moment of every day. She will be so sorely missed.

‘As a family we are trying to understand how we will navigate our lives without her, it seems an impossible task.’

The community police officer had worked for Kent Police for 13 years before she died.

She was popular with locals in the area and had worked with local domestic violence and abuse charity Rising Sun.

There has been a large police presence in Aylesham this week in connection with her death.
