Man, 57, arrested after 11-year-old girl reports sexual assault at theme park
A 57-year-old man has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl at a theme park.
The incident is said to have happened at Adventure Island in Southend, Essex, on Thursday. Police were summoned to the park, next door to the famous mile-long Southen Pier, at 3pm.
The suspect was described as a man in his late-50s, with short grey hair and wearing a green T-shirt, according to police officers. A 57-year-old man from Chelmsford was later arrested in connection with the investigation and released on bail.
Police added that the young victim was receiving support. They also urged anyone who may have witnessed the assault or may have any information to contact them.
According to a report from The Sun, the alarm was raised when the girl confided in others in her group that a man had touched her inappropriately while on a ride at the theme park.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Investigating officers from Southend Criminal Investigation Department have arrested a 57-year-old man from Chelmsford in connection with this investigation. He has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this assault or have any further information to contact us.”
