Man, 30, dies after ‘getting in difficulty’ in lake near Hampshire

A man died in hospital after he was pulled from a fishing lake.

The 30-year-old experienced ‘difficulty’ at three acre Longbridge Lake near Romsey in Hampshire in the early hours of Friday.

Emergency services were called to the area at around 2.30am and managed to get the man, from Trowbridge, to hospital. He died later.

Police officers initially arrested three men and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder but they were released without being charged.

Officers said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

They confirmed a man, 34, from Salisbury, who was interviewed remained under investigation for an assault.

A police spokesman said: ‘We were called at 2.31am on June 26 following reports of a 30-year-old man in difficulty in the water at Longbridge Lake, near Romsey. 

‘He later died at Southampton General Hospital.

‘The four arrested on suspicion of murder were a 40-year-old man from Devizes, Wilts, a 48-year-old man from Southampton and a 34-year-old man and 16 year old boy, both from Salisbury.

‘All four have been released from custody with no further action.

‘However the 34-year-old remains under investigation for an assault in connection with the incident.’
