Man (29) hospitalised following stabbing in Co Louth

A 29-year-old man has been hospitalised with knife wounds after a stabbing in Drogheda last night.

The victim was attacked by up to four males in the Moneymore estate which has been at the centre of a violent feud in the town.

Gardaí were alerted to the scene near the local GAA pitch at around 10.30pm.

Members of the Regional Support Unit (RSU), who have been patrolling the area to prevent any further outbreaks of violence, also responded to the incident.

At this stage it is not believed the assault is directly linked to the ongoing feud in the town.

The victim, who is originally from Dundalk, was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigations are ongoing but no arrests have yet been made.

Hours earlier an armed juvenile was arrested by local gardaí following a robbery at a local shop at around 7.30pm.

A masked male entered the store in the Aston Village area and threatened staff, before robbing a small sum of cash from the till.

Unarmed gardaí who were on patrol at the time responded and a foot chase ensured.

A 17-year-old suspect was arrested a shot distance away, and gardaí recovered a knife, ski-mask and a sum of cash.
