With Christmas less than 100 days away, toy retailer Argos has released its list of the 15 “top toys set to dominate Christmas wish lists” this year.
Including a wide variety of toys, many parents will be pleased to know that the list also has a wide range of prices, so there should be something for all budgets – with over half the list £50 or less, and one of the most in demand toys coming in at just £10.
It is clear that much-loved traditional film franchises such as Harry Potter and Transformers continue to influence the most popular toys, with the Harry Potter Ministry of Magic LEGO set and the LEGO Transformers Optimus Prime figure making the list.
With gifts starting at £10, parents aiming to cut back on Christmas spending also have some affordable options to choose from this year, including the super cute and interactive Dinosaur Waterfall Bath Toy from Chad Valley at £10, the Nerf Elite 2.0 Ranger PD-5 Blaster, costing £18, and the Sink N’ Sand offering some sensory fidget toy fun for £20.
Elsewhere, the list is influenced by the small screen, with toys from the worlds of Bluey, Paw Patrol and Gabby’s Dollhouse among the most wanted.
“This year’s top toy list is a great mixture of classic and much-loved toys such as LEGO as well as newer brands like Squishmallows which have quickly become wish-list staples,” explained Fay Williams, Head of Toy Buying at Argos. “It’s clear digital entertainment and some of the biggest and most loved film and TV franchises continue to have a massive influence on the most in-demand toys.
“It’s great to see classic franchises like Harry Potter, Transformers and Pokémon continue to prove popular amongst children in 2022, alongside the newer ones with cult followings such as Bluey and Paw Patrol.
“With the cost of living on customers’ minds, we wanted to make sure that more than half of our top toys were under £50, so parents can still make this time of year special without spending beyond their means. We offer a wide range of toys, top toys and beyond, ensuring there is something for every child, regardless of their interests or passions”.
Reports have already shown that, for many families, this Christmas will be very different to previous editions. In fact, Tesco released an advert back in July, advising customers to start thinking about their festive shopping to help spread the cost out. This isn’t a surprise, given the Bank of England’s recent warning that “the United Kingdom is now projected to enter recession” just before the Christmas holidays.
As a result, people are being encouraged to plan ahead, buy items when they can afford them, and stash them away.
