M65 traffic latest: Why is the M65 CLOSED? What has happened on the M65?

The M65 has two lanes currently closed between junctions seven and eight. This has created congestion along the eastbound carriageway, with traffic stretching to junction six.

Why is the M65 closed?

There has been a crash between junction seven and junction eight, near Accrington, involving multiple vehicles.

Lancashire Police and Highways England are at the scene, and the eastbound carriageway has been closed.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “The eastbound carriageway of the M65 is currently closed following a collision involving a number of vehicles close to Junction 8.

“Emergency services are at the scene and work is on-going to help those involved.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes.”

One twitter user reported queues writing: “#M65 queuing from junction 5 heading towards Burnley. 2 lanes closed from 7 to 8 apparently…if anyone is heading that way !”

Highways England tweeted: “The #M65 from #J7 (#Clitheroe #Accrington) towards #J8 (#Huncoat) 2 lanes have been closed due to a collision. Traffic Officers & @LancsRoadPolice are on scene.”
