M53 bus crash driver remembered as ‘loving husband and father’ in family tribute
The driver who died after his school bus crashed on the M53 has been remembered by his family in a touching tribute this weekend.
Stephen Shrimpton, 40, died when his bus overturned on the traffic artery as he ferried more than 50 children to school in the Wirral on the morning of Friday, September 29.
His death was one of two fatalities from the crash, with 15-year-old schoolgirl Jessica Baker having also died in the horror incident.
Mr Shrimpton has left behind a wife and two children, who have remembered him this afternoon.
His family described him as a “loving husband and father” as they announced he was involved in the accident today.

In a brief statement released via Merseyside Police, they said he was a “thoughtful” man who “always prioritised others”.
They said: “Stephen sadly passed away in a traffic accident.

“Stephen will be sadly missed by all his friends and family. The family has requested privacy at this devastating time.”

Mr Shrimpton was also remembered by his sister-in-law, who set up a fundraiser via GoFundMe on Friday.
As she sought to raise money for his funeral, Emily Church said he was a “beloved father” to his two young children, aged eight and four.
The fundraiser has seen hundreds of contributions since it was launched on September 29, with donations having far exceeded its £6,000 goal.
A total of 766 people have donated £10,240 towards the dad’s funeral arrangements.
Mr Shrimpton was carrying students from West Kirby Grammar School and Calday Grange Grammar School when he crashed near the M53’s junction five at Hooton on Friday.
Ms Church said her brother-in-law suffered “medical issues” while he was behind the wheel, a detail not yet confirmed by investigators.
Merseyside Police has also issued a statement regarding the incident and has called for anyone driving near the crash, as it happened, to send dashcam footage to assist with investigations.
