The collision, which involved multiple lorries, happened at around 4pm on Wednesday afternoon on the northbound of the M5, between J8 and J7, near Worcester and Evesham. National Highways has warned motorists to expect delays.

Emergency services including police officers, ambulances, and the Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the scene to assist.

It is still unknown if anyone was injured in the accident.

In an announcement, West Mercia Police said that they are working with National Highways to get traffic moving “as soon as possible”.

National Highways advised drivers to avoid the route, allow extra journey time, or delay their journey, as the road remains closed.

The following diversion route was suggested:

  • Exit M5 at J8 on to M50
  • Travel to J1, and exit on to A38 northbound
  • Travel along the A38 until the roundabout with the A4440
  • Take the 3rd exit on to A4440
  • Continue on the A4440 to the junction with the A44, take the 2nd exit on to the A44 eastbound
  • Travel on the A44 to the M5 J7
