Traffic queues are reported to be stretching out along the M4 Eastbound from J36 Sarn and J35 Pencoed after the accident. The three-vehicle accident has blocked the third lane of the busy motorway.
Police are in attendeance with no casualties reported so far.
Pictures from the scene at 8.48am showed long queues of traffic eastbound.
There is no official diversion in place but drivers can leave at junction 37 for Pyle, and take the A48 eastbound through Bridgend and then rejoin the M4 at junction 35 via the A473 in Coychurch.
But the A48 is congested as a result, as are local roads in Bridgend.
Due to onlookers, westbound traffic is also slow from junction 34, for Llantrisant and Hensol.
But no diversion is in place or recommended for those on this carriageway.
Access to McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, which is off junction 36 for Sarn, a fashionable shopping outlet with high-end stores, is slow due to the jams this morning.
