Drivers are facing astonishing 47-mile delays on the M25 as some people return from the Christmas break.
Traffic is at a snail’s pace on the M25 clockwise from J5 M26 / A21 (Sevenoaks) to J15 M4, affecting nearly 50 miles of the motorway.
Travel time in this area is estimated to be 1 hour 45 minutes. Lengthy delays are also being recorded on the M25 anticlockwise at the Dartford Tunnel.
Congestion has currently built to J4 (Orpington), with travel time in this area of over 50 minutes. Pictures from the M25 this afternoon show gridlocked traffic all over the M25, with congestions spanning as far as the eye can see, Kent Live reports.
There is no word yet when normal traffic conditions will resume. The latest update from traffic monitoring site Inrix states: “Very slow traffic on M25 clockwise from J5 M26 / A21 (Sevenoaks) to J15 M4. Travel time is 1 hour 45 minutes.”
