Lucy Letby’s parents ‘planning to move house’ to be near daughter’s prison

The parents of Britain’s worst female serial killer in modern times are reportedly intent on moving 250 miles to be closer to their daughter.

John and Susan Letby attended every day of their baby murderer daughter’s 10-month trial, but after she was found guilty were not present for sentencing.

Letby herself refused to appear in the dock to hear the 15 whole life judgements handed down and statements from her victim’s families in a move branded “cowardly” by the Prime Minister.

A jury found the former neonatal guilty of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder six more while working on a neonatal unit.

Letby, 33, was working at the Countess of Chester Hospital when she carried out the string of attacks on tiny, premature babies between 2015 and 2016.

Now it’s understood the killer’s parents, John, 77, and Susan, 63, are planning to move to live near HMP Low Newton, near Durham, where Letby will spend the rest of her life.

The MailOnline reports the couple have become virtual recluses and are hoping to sell up their £230,000 home in Herefordshire.

During the investigation into her heinous crimes when police arrested Lucy Letby for the final time in 2018, her mother Susan was said to have cried to officers: “I did it, take me instead.”

A neighbour of Mr and Mrs Letby told MailOnline the couple “rented a flat in Manchester” so they could attend the trial. They claimed to have “hardly seen” the pair since their daughter was arrested.

At HMP Low Newton where serial child killer Letby is likely to serve her whole sentence, inmates have the chance to pet baby animals, decorate their prison cells and go shopping.

Express.co.uk reported the high-security Category A female prison is home to Joanna Dennehy, who killed three men within ten days in 2013 and was given a whole-life order.

Other past inmates at the prison include depraved women such as Rose West – dubbed the Cromwell Street killer, and Baby P’s mother Tracey Connolley.

Pictures of the general population prison show a cell with storage space and a neat library with hundreds of books and a handful of computer desks. Prisoners also have a Rags to Riches shop which is stocked with well-known fashion brands. Items ranging from flip flops, shirts and pants are reportedly on offer.

The Justice Secretary Alex Chalk has vowed to change the law at the “earliest opportunity” to ensure serious offenders can be forced to attend their sentencing following the refusal by child murderer Lucy Letby to appear in the dock

Mr Chalk said on Monday: “Lucy Letby is not just a murderer but a coward, whose failure to face her victims’ families, refusing to hear their impact statements and society’s condemnation, is the final insult.

“We are looking to change the law so offenders can be compelled to attend sentencing hearings.”
