The Duchess of Cornwall said she is “lucky” to have avoided Covid and revealed her husband is finding having to self-isolate again “a bit tiresome” but his symptoms are not thought to be serious. The Prince tested positive the day after attending a black tie reception celebrating the British Asian Trust at the British Museum with Camilla, who has tested negative.
Prince Charles was unable to attend an engagement on Thursday to unveil a statue of Licoricia of Winchester, bitterly disappointing the waiting crowds.
The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire instead read out this message from the Prince: “Ladies and gentlemen, I am so sorry that I cannot be with you today.
“I am desperately disappointed as I was so looking forward to marking this historic occasion with you.
“I hope very much that I will be able to visit at a future time.
“But for today please accept my most heartfelt apologies and my very best wishes as you mark this memorable occasion for Winchester.”
Camilla was still able to visit the Paddington Haven sexual assault referral centre in London on Thursday, as current Covid restrictions state that anyone who is fully vaccinated and tests negative does not have to self-isolate, even if they have been in close contact someone who tests positive.
Camilla and Charles are both triple-jabbed and have encouraged others to get the full course of vaccinations.
Rishi Sunak and Priti Patel also met the royal couple at the reception on Wednesday evening, although Mr Sunak has tested negative.
Prince Charles was first struck down by COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic in March 2020.
At the time he said: “I was lucky in my case….[I] got away with it quite lightly.”
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Charles was in contact with the Queen two days before his positive test.

She is not currently experiencing any symptoms and is being closely monitored, it has been reported.
It is thought she will be taking rapid lateral flow tests every day for the next week to keep an eye on the situation.
On Saturday the Queen announced in a speech that she wished for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort when Charles accedes to the throne.
