The National Lottery claims Lotto is the “nation’s favourite game” and with tonight’s staggering multi-million pound jackpot, it’s easy to see why. Tonight’s Lotto jackpot is a Double Rollover worth an estimated £5.5 million – a truly life-changing amount of money.

What is Rollover?

Lotto players should keep an eye on the game’s rollovers, which take place if no one wins the jackpot by matching six main numbers.

Lotto begins a cycle with a starting jackpot and follows with a Rollover, Double Rollover, Triple Rollover and Quadruple Rollover.

If no one wins the jackpot with six main numbers in a Quadruple Rollover, the next Lotto game become’s a Must Be Won draw.

And in a Lotto Must Be Won draw where no one wins the jackpot by matching the six main numbers, there’s a Rolldown.

The jackpot is then shared among players who match two or more main numbers.

The new rules, which came into place on November 7, 2020, mean thousands may win a boosted cash prize in the case of a Rolldown.

All people who match two will receive their usual Lotto Lucky Dip along with a £5 boost.

The remaining jackpot is then distributed among all other winning prize tiers based on set percentages.

How do you play Lotto?

Lotto tickets can be purchased online via the National Lottery website every day, but only between 6am and 11pm.

However, remember tickets need to be purchased before 7.30pm on a draw day in order for it to count.

Lotto draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday, so players can play on either or both days if they want to.
