Lorraine Kelly 'breaks character' to snub Tory PM candidate

Lorraine Kelly appears to have snubbed a Tory Prime Minister candidate live on air.

Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan had just interviewed Esther McVey on Good Morning Britain when they cut to Lorraine in her studio.

The Scottish presenter, who shocked the world by revealing she is a ‘theatrical artist’ playing the role of a friendly personality, was asked if she remembers McVey from their days working together on GMTV.

It all turned a bit awkward when the usually cheerful and chatty TV host replied bluntly: ‘Yeah. Yes I do.’

In typical fashion, Piers made things even more awkward, asking Lorraine: ‘So you got on with Esther then?’

She then replied: ‘I don’t remember love, I don’t remember at all. It was an awful long time ago.’

And Piers added: ‘Ooh if looks could kill, she’d be six feet under.’

The viewers couldn’t help but notice the tension.

Writer Caitlin Moran asked Twitter: ‘So come on – who’s got the full story on the Lorraine/Esther McVey feud?

‘I want DATES and EVENTS and THINGS THAT WERE HISSED AT EACH OTHER.’

Author Jojo Moyes said: ‘That Lorraine/McVey clip is THE most British of burns.

‘And will probably hurt more than any cocaine revelation.’

The fully story on McVey and Lorraine’s apparent beef is not publicly known, but the politician has rubbed up fellow Tories the wrong way with her stance on LGBT school lessons.

McVey said it was ‘down to them’ if parents wish to stop their children learning about same-sex couples in school.

She was blasted by Justine Greening, the first openly gay female member of cabinet, who said McVey couldn’t ‘pick and choose’ when it comes to human rights and equality.

McVey presented GMTV with Eamonn Holmes in the late 1990s before starting her own business and becoming an MP for Wirral West in 2010.

She was beaten by Labour in the 2015 general election but returned two years later, winning the safe Conservative seat of Tatton, Cheshire, in 2017.
