Loo roll lorry driver caught short and spills load with no sign of skid mark

An HGV driver was caught short this morning after crashing into a bridge and spilling his lorry-load of toilet roll – clogging up traffic during rush-hour.

The trucker got a bum deal after hitting a low bridge on the South Circular in Hither Green, Lewisham, southeast London – but luckily avoided being wiped out.

Emergency services were called to Verdant Lane around 8.10am this morning to reports a vehicle had collided with a railway bridge.

Dramatic pictures showed the lorry with its container ripped open, as dozens of toilet rolls spilled out onto the road.

The lorry driver unfortunately appears not to have noticed the big yellow sign warning ‘low bridge’.

A number of surrounding roads were closed as authorities organised a clean-up.

Police said inquiries were ongoing as motorists were urged to avoid the area due to an ‘extensive build-up of traffic’.

Transport firm Kersey Freight has been contacted for further comment.

Fortunately, the accident does not appear to have left any lasting skid marks.

But it’s clearly been a rubbish day for truckers after another lorry overturned dumping sewage onto the carriageway in Bolney, West Sussex.

Traffic has been diverted after a collision on the southbound side of the A23 just before 2pm.
