Blackwall Tunnel: Black smoke fills sky as fire brigade respond

Terrifying pictures have emerged of a fire raging in the northbound direction of the tunnel. Shocking images from inside the tunnel appear to show a car up in flames. Dashcam footage has also been shared on social media from drivers on the approach.

One video shows thick black smoke bellowing across the London skyline.

Crews from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) have been deployed to the scene.

The Blackwall Tunnel is currently closed with long queues forming in both directions.

In a post on Twitter, the LFB said: “Firefighters have been called to reports of smoke issuing from a car in the northbound tunnel of the #BlackwallTunnel.

“Our Control Officers have taken 10 calls to the incident.”

In a post on Twitter, one user wrote: “Blazing fire in #blackwall tunnel #northbound.

“Avoid tunnel if you can.”

A second added: “Avoid Blackwall tunnel north bound!”
