A poll by Express.co.uk found 67 percent (1,760) of respondents said London should not be released earlier than other regions. This was in comparison to 31 percent (828) of readers who said coronavirus restrictions in the capital should be lifted.
Commentators echoed the results saying they believed “we were all this together” and London should not recieve special treatment.
One said: “Why does London think they are so special they always have to be treated first.”
Another said: “Whatever happened to ‘were all in this together?'”
One commented: “So they can then spread out into our areas and second homes bringing their germs with them?”
Others highlighted how London had the majority of cases of COVID-19 when the invisible killer disease crisis first broke out.
Another said: “No way… an electrified fence to keep them in would be a better plan.
“They very nearly brought the NHS to its knees by consistently flouting lockdown rules. Now it’s proposed they should be rewarded through being released from lockdown. We could all have done what they did, then where would we be?
One added: “No when they had the vast majority of cases everyone else had to lockdown and suffer. I thought we were all in this together not special dispensation for certain areas who BTW have just had a huge cash boost for transport amongst other things unlike anywhere else in the UK.”

It comes after data suggests London is nearing victory over the coronavirus outbreak, sparking proposals that the city – and other areas turning the tide on the virus – could be released from lockdown before some other regions.UK.
Analysis conducted by Cambridge University and Public Health England (PHE) experts suggested the disease could be eradicated in the capital within weeks at the current rate of transmission.
The data estimated up to 20 percent of Londoners have already been infected.
Downing Street’s official spokesperson revealed some of the government’s strict measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 could be eased “at different rates in different parts of the country”.
But the same data also showed the crucial R rate – the average number of people an infected patient passes the virus on to – in London, as well as every other region had already fallen before lockdown on March 23.
It suggested the government’s social distancing measures introduced a week before, which saw public transport use plummet and millions of Brits work from home instead of risk travelling, slowed the crisis.
The Cambridge-PHE data has started a debate in parliament, as some want government to commit to lifting lockdown on a region-by-region basis, with one MP urging ministers to consider it because “it makes sense from a health perspective”.
