Videos posted on social media showed officers drawing their batons and shouting at people to “stand back” while sirens sounded and horns beeped in the background. 

Demonstrators were seen scuffling with officers as tensions ran high on what was due to be “Freedom Day” for millions.

Police could be seen leading one woman away from the crowd with her hands tied, while another scene showed protesters being thrown to the ground.
