London meteor burns up over sky in capital in dramatic scenes – ‘Stunning!’

Typically meteor’s travel across space at tens of thousands of miles per hour but burn up, producing a warm glow, if they enter the Earth’s atmosphere.

Londoner Shane Mann tweeted: “Just saw a #meteor burn up across the sky in West London. Stunning.

“I wasn’t quick enough with the camera sadly.”

Channel 4 News producer Alice Wagstaffe said: “Just saw an incredible meteor or shooting star or something over London, please let there be video footage!”

Another Twitter user added: “I swear I just saw a super bright meteor fall over north London.”

There were also reports on social media of the meteor being seen from other parts of the UK including Manchester and Rochdale.
