Armed police swooped on a south London home over reports a woman was being held by a knifeman.

Officers were called shortly after 1.00pm BST to an address in Streatham, south London.

The road where the house is situated was closed off as armed poice and ambulance attend the scene.

A man has now been arrested, police have confirmed.

A number of specialist units swooped on the address and safety cordons were erected before an arrest was made at around 19.40pm.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 1.12pm to reports of a woman in danger at a residential address at Daysbrook Road, Lambeth.

“Officers attended.

“At the scene a female, believed to be in her 20s, is being prevented from leaving the property by a male armed with a knife.

“Specialist police units are on scene and dealing. Safety cordons have been established.”
