People have taken to social media to document a fire that has broken out in central London. Thick black smoke can be seen pouring out of a building, near Elephant Park in south London. One video, posted on social media, shows bright red flames ripping through what appears to be a building site.

Three fire engines are understood to have rushed to put out the blaze.

It is not yet known what caused the fire or if anyone has been injured.

A spokeswoman from London Fire Brigade (LFB) said a statement would be released shortly.

It comes just weeks after a huge blaze ignited by Elephant and Castle station on June 29.

About 100 firefighters were tasked with extinguishing the fire, which was caused by an electrical car fault.

Over 600 people were evacuated from the area and trains were forced to stop running.

Three commercial units underneath the railway arches were completely destroyed by the blaze, LBF said.

They also confirmed six people were left needing medical treatment.
