London Bridge terror attack: Will TV debate go ahead? Have they cancelled campaigning?

Assistant Comissioner for Specialist Operations at the Met Police, Neil Basu, released a statement following the attack at London Bridge today: “A male suspect was shot by specialist armed officers from City of London Police and I can confirm that this suspect died at the scene.” He added:”As you would expect, due to the nature of the incident, we responded as though it was terrorist-related. I am now in a position to confirm that it has been declared a terrorist incident. We are working jointly with the City of London Police as we continue to respond.”

There has been an outpouring of support for victims and the emergency services on Twitter since the incident.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted today: “I want to thank the emergency services and members of the public for their immense bravery in responding to this suspected terrorist attack at London Bridge.

“This is an appalling incident and all my thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also voiced his condolences. 

Mr Corbyn tweeted: “Shocking reports from London Bridge.

“My thoughts are with those caught up in the incident.

“Thank you to the police and emergency services who are responding.”

 

Will TV debate go ahead? Have they cancelled campaigning?

Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson were not expected to be attending tonight’s TV leaders debate on BBC.

The Mirror reports as of 5pm it is unclear if general election campaigning would be suspended.

The BBC were due to begin a seven-way election debate at 7pm today.
