London Bridge terror attack: ISIS claims responsibility for knife attack which killed 2

ISIS has claimed responsibility for London Bridge terror attack which killed the two members of the public, and left another three injured on Friday afternoon, through its Amaq news agency reports. The suspect was shot dead by police and was wearing what is thought to have been a hoax explosive device. The convicted terrorist had been automatically freed from prison on licence in December 2018, having served half his 16-year sentence.

The attack happened yesterday at 2pm, with Scotland Yard naming the first of the two victims killed by Usman Khan.

Jack Merritt, 25, was described as a “beautiful spirit” by his bereaved family after he and a woman, who is yet to be named by the London Metropolitan Police, were brutally killed when Khan, 28, stabbed them in a savage terror attack yesterday.

Mr Merritt’s father, David, paid an emotional tribute to his late son.

He said on Twitter: “My son, Jack, who was killed in this attack, would not wish his death to be used as the pretext for more draconian sentences or for detaining people unnecessarily.

“R.I.P. Jack: you were a beautiful spirit who always took the side of the underdog.”

Jack, a councillor for Learning Together, was also described as a “champion” for those who had “dealt a losing hand by life, who ended up in the prison system” by his heartbroken family.

He was Cambridge and his father also said the entire community was in “shock” after the attack that left another woman dead and three more seriously injured.

Friends of Mr Merritt joined forces to pay their respects on social media.

One said: “David, I knew your son through Learning Together & I loved him to pieces – he was the sweetest, most caring and selfless individual I’ve ever met.
