London Bridge attack: Masses of people flee Borough Market as police shut down area
Twitter user Yekaterina filmed the terrifying scenes in central London as Borough Market attendees flew the scene. An attack on London Bridge has caused widespread panic as armed police rush to shut down the scene. Emergency services have been called to London Bridge amid reports of shots being fired at the London tourist attraction.
London Ambulance Service has declared a “major incident”.
It has been reported that a knifeman went on a rampage in the centre of London, injuring multiple people.
A man has now been detained by police.
Prior to the arrival of the emergency services on the Bridge, members of the public appeared to pin down the attacker, with social media lookers praising their bravery.
Met Police tweeted: “At this stage, the circumstances relating to the incident at London Bridge remain unclear.
“However, as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terror-related.
“One man has been shot by police. We will provide further information when possible.”
They also confirmed that police were called at 1:58pm to a stabbing at premises near to London Bridge.
London ambulance service said it had crews at the scene.
BBC correspondent John McManus told BBC News that he had heard several gunshots on London Bridge.
He said: “There appeared to be a fight going on on the other side of the bridge, with several men attacking one man.”
