London bloodbath: Man shot dead in street – Met Police launch urgent hunt for killer

Officers raced to the scene at Windrush Road on the Stonebridge Estate in Brent at around 3am after receiving reports of gunfire. Police and firearms teams found a man in his 20 suffering from a gunshot injury. The officers said they provided first aid until paramedics arrived but despite their efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Officers are in the process of informing next of kin. Formal identification awaits.

“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

“Homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have been notified.

“At this early stage, there have been no arrests. Inquiries continue.”

There has been a surge in violent crime in London as the capital has emerged from the coronavirius lockdown.

A man in his 30s was shot dead in Penge, south London, on Sunday after a weekend of bloodshed across the city.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at around 2am to reports of a man collapsed in Croydon Road, Penge. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from Specialist Crime are investigating and believe the man died from gunshot wounds.

Earlier, a 23-year-old man was left in a critical condition following a knife attack in Wood Green, north London.

And in Kennington, south London, a 30-year-old man died following another stabbing.

Two teenage boys were also stabbed in Hackney on Saturday afternoon.

Another man was murdered in Poplar on Friday and another was taken to hospital following another stabbing.
