London bloodbath: Man dies at scene of Hackney stabbing – police investigation launched

Metropolitan Police were called to the scene on Matthias Road at 5.47pm where officers fought to save the man’s life. London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance also attended, but despite efforts to administer CPR the man died at the scene. A police investigation is underway and the Homicide and Major Crime Command are being informed.

A Section 60 has been authorised for nearby areas.

A Section 60 “gives police the right to search people in a defined area during a specific time period when they believe, with good reason, that: serious violence will take place and it is necessary to use this power to prevent such violence; or that a person is carrying a dangerous object or offensive weapon; or that an incident involving serious violence has taken place and a dangerous instrument or offensive weapon used in the incident is being carried in the locality”.

A Met Police statement said: “Police were called at 17:47hrs on Wednesday, 17 April to Matthias Road, Stoke Newington, following reports of a stabbing.

“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

“A man, thought to be aged in his 30s, was discovered suffering from a stab injury.

“Police administered CPR prior to the arrival of ambulance personnel; despite their efforts the man died at the scene.

“Police are working to inform his next of kin.

“At this early stage there have been no arrests.

“The Homicide and Major Crime Command will be informed.

“A crime scene is in place.

“Enquiries continue.

“A Section 60 has been authorised for post codes N16, N1 and E8.
