London acid attack: Woman in 60s and teenage girl attacked in Thornton Heath

The two women were targeted with the substance along County Road, at the junction with Norbury Avenue around 11.45 am on Monday. The victims suffered facial injuries and were taken to hospital. No arrests have been made. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Jon Ellacott, who witness the incident, told London Evening Standard: “All we know is that a noxious substance was thrown from a van at a woman with her children, walking down the road.

“The first we knew about it was when the fire brigade, police and paramedics turned up.”

The Met Police said in a statement: “Police were called at 11:44hrs on Monday, 8 April to reports of a noxious substance attack on County Road at the junction with Norbury Avenue, Thornton Heath.

“Officers attended alongside the LAS and LFB and found two female victims, one aged in her 60s and another in her teens, suffering facial injuries.

“They were taken to hospital where their injuries have been assessed non life-threatening.

“No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.”
