The police have established a presence at the Adelphi Hotel after reports of a man being attacked earlier today. The man was stabbed in the stomach, initial reports suggest.

He is understood to be in a serious condition and still in hospital.

A police cordon is in place around the hotel, which is in the heart of Liverpool’s city centre.

Officers have been standing guard around the hotel since they were called to the incident.

A Merseyside police spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo: “At around 2.40am we received a report that a man was approached by a group of two men and two women on Ranelagh Place, outside the Adelphi hotel.

“Following an altercation, it was reported that the man was stabbed in the stomach.

“The suspects were reported to have left the scene.

“Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital for serious injuries.”

Two people have been arrested in connection with the attack.

A 24-year-old man and a woman, 28, have been arrested on a nearby street, according to the Liverpool Echo.

They were detained at a hotel on Fairclough Street, near the location of the attack.

They were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Assault.

They are currently in custody.

Police also detailed that they are looking for two other people believed to have been present at the scene, but left after the attack.

Chief Inspector Rob Ross said: “We are in the extremely early stages of an investigation into a stabbing which has left a man seriously injured.

“While we have made two arrests, our enquiries continue to locate a further man and woman who we believe are also linked to the incident.

“If you were in the area near the Adelphi Hotel this morning and witnessed the incident, or saw anything or anyone suspicious then please get in touch.

Any information you hold could be vital to our investigation.

“Please tell us what you know and we will take action to remove dangerous weapons and those who use them from our streets.”
