Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, welcomed their first daughter on June 4 and named her after the Queen and Princess Diana. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have since been urged to return to the UK to christen Lilibet Diana in the UK and build bridges with the Royal Family. But royal historian Marlene Koenig has said it would be “surprising” if the Sussexes did return to christen Lili meaning she is set to miss out on wearing the royal christening gown her brother Archie Harrison wore.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Ms Koenig said: “I will be very, very surprised if the baby is baptised and if they come to the UK.
“I certainly do not think the christening gown will be sent to California.
“Not as an insult but just because it’s expensive and even sending it as express mail or through the British embassy, you’re still having some problems.
“I do think that a baptism would be a good sign to have because the Queen didn’t go to Archie’s baptism.
“She wasn’t at Louis’ either, it wasn’t an insult, just the scheduling was not perfect.
“I think it would be a good sign to have a nice baptism with the immediate family especially for Charles to see his new granddaughter and the Queen to see her great-granddaughter.”
She added: “But we’ll see, I’ll be surprised if there’s a baptism anytime soon.
“I could be proven wrong but it would be nice to see them celebrate privately this summer.”
Meghan and Harry: Commentator says £2m ‘goes a long way’
It comes as Meghan has been urged to return to the UK with Prince Harry for the Diana statue unveiling as it would be “good for brand”.
The Duchess is unlikely to return to the UK with Harry on July 1 for the unveiling of the Princess Diana statue due to having given birth just a month before.
However, the Duchess of Sussex, who named her new daughter Lilibet Diana, has been told it would be “good for brand” to continue to associate herself with the Royal Family.
The Mail on Sunday’s diary editor Charlotte Griffiths explained that the event is a “missed opportunity” for Meghan.

Asked whether Meghan will ever return to the UK, Ms Griffiths told Speaking to Palace Confidential on Mail+: “When she finally does it will be such a big deal. It’s almost not worth thinking about.
“In another era you can imagine Meghan would have absolutely loved to come over for the unveiling of the Diana statue, her daughter’s middle name is Diana.
“It’s actually quite good for brand Markle that she keeps this association with the Royal Family once and awhile.
“It’s an opportunity missed but how can she possible face up to it.”
