Lib Dems spark Twitterstorm after sending controversial Brexit post – ‘It’s manipulation!’
The party is renowned for its pro-European stance and have made it a cornerstone of their election pledges. But not everyone agreed with the manner in which they plan to go about it. After explaining what they wanted to do with Brexit on the social media platform, many commented that the Lib Dems were not trustworthy.
The original tweet said: “Brexit will damage the livelihoods of people, families and communities across the whole United Kingdom.
“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to #StopBrexit.
“Together, we can build a #BrighterFuture.”
But that message saw hundreds respond back, with some unhappy at the party’s attitude towards the UK’s exit.
One wrote: “You already did that when you went into a coalition with the conservatives.
“Well done by the way.”
Another said: ”You need to understand she is only saying all this to get in as pm Brexit has to be carried out or no longer will we democracy.”
A third responded: “Brexit will not do that alone.

“You’re pitting Remain against Hard Brexit, and only Hard Brexit will do that.
“I’d sooner Remain, but give people the facts, pack it in with the manipulation and exaggeration.
“Brexit does not have to be hard.”
It comes after Jo Swinson’s party was embroiled in another row over misleading the public.

They were accused of circulating general election pamphlets disguised as local newspapers.
The pamphlets were called titles including Mid-Hampshire Gazette and Northwest Leeds and Wharfedale News.
The Society of Editors had strong words for Ms Swinson.
Its executive director Ian Murray raged: “It is ironic how it is often politicians who complain about fake news but then set out to at least blur the lines for readers – and in this case voters – by packaging their partial messages to ape independent newspapers.”
He called on political parties to support regional and local press rather than undermine it by “ensuring their political free-sheets look markedly different to real newspapers”.
“There should also be a requirement to clearly state which party is funding a publication in large, bold typeface rather than hiding such information away in an attempt to deceive,” Mr Murray added.
Katie French editor of the Basingstoke Gazette also condemned the Lib Dems pamphlets as having “shamelessly exploited the trusted format of a local newspaper for their own political gain”.
“This is nothing more than a political advertisement dressed up as a newspaper,” she said, according to the industry website Hold The Frontpage.
“The look and feel of this advertisement is very convincing and readers will have to spot the small print in the top right corner to see the so-called Mid Hampshire Gazette is published by the Liberal Democrats.
“This is a flagrant attempt to manipulate voters by presenting them an advertisement in the form of a front-page news story.
“Frankly it is insulting to the public who deserve better from one of the leading political parties.”
