Lib Dems spark hilarious Twitterstorm after vowing to STILL stop Brexit – ‘Stop whinging!’

The party’s Twitter account received dozens of responses after making the post online. It came as the House of Commons voted to back Mr Johnson’s Brexit bill. The bill was overwhelmingly supported and will see the UK ditch the EU on January 31.

It was passed by 358 votes to 234 – sealing a huge 124-vote majority.

But the Lib Dems were among those not to back it, with their 11 MPs voting against the Government.

On Twitter, the party wrote: “Liberal Democrats will continue to oppose Brexit and fight for the closest possible relationship with Europe, preventing tariffs and other trade barriers, protecting rights and security co-operation.”

Their post caused hilarity, and anger, online.

One person wrote: “Problem you have, is everyone knows you don’t care about the opinions of the electorate.

“This is terminal unless you embrace Brexit.

“I’d advise dropping the intersectional politics too.

“Become LIBERAL, Become DEMOCRATIC.”

Another said: “You had every opportunity to do it in the run up to the election but you opted to support the Tories.

“Too late for whingeing protests now.”

A third replied: “You lot need to find yourselves a leader and let go of yesterday.

“We’re moving forward and you’re welcome to join us.”

And a fourth summed it up by adding: “I suspect this tweet will age well.”

Part of Mr Johnson’s successful general election campaign was to “get Brexit done”.

One week into the his new premiership, the Prime Minister made good on his pledge.

Before the vote on Friday, Mr Johnson told Parliament: “This is the time when we move on and discard the old labels of ‘leave’ and ‘remain’.

“Now is the time to act together as one reinvigorated nation, one United Kingdom.

“Now is the moment to come together and write a new and exciting chapter in our national story, to forge a new partnership with our European friends, to stand tall in the world, to begin the healing for which the whole people of this country yearn.”

Most of Labour’s MPs refused to back the Government.

However, six MPs did vote with Mr Johnson.
