Lib Dems Jo Swinson ruthlessly mocked over prospect of becoming Prime Minister

Liberal Democrats leader Jo Swinson formally announced they would stop Brexit by revoking Article 50 should they secure a victory at the next general election. When questioned about the possibility of Ms Swinson becoming Prime Minister on LBC, Lib Dem MP Alistair Carmichael insisted her election was a “credible” possibility. However following his statement, many viewers took to Twitter to mock the suggestion that a Liberal Democrat could become the next British Prime Minister.

LBC host Clive Bull asked Mr Carmichael: “Could I stretch it as far as the Lib Dems actually winning the next general election?

“You are informing people this new policy on Brexit of just scrapping it without people’s vote.”

The Lib Dem MP replied: “I’m not going to predict anything about the future for the reasons I just outlined.

“But the idea that Jo Swinson could end up in 10 Downing street after the next election is a credible one.

“With that being the case, we are having to look seriously at what her position would be in that eventuality.

“We are not taking anything for granted but I think it is important.

“In the event that there is a Liberal Democrat majority government we will revoke Article 50.”

But listeners took to social media to mock the suggestion, with one viewer commenting: “It is far more ‘credible’ that Jo Swinson will lose her seat.”

Another enraged member of the audience wrote: “Jo Swinson is utterly deluded.

“The electorate will never trust the Lib Dems again, lies damn lies.”

Twitter user Intrepid T said: “Well that shows how out of touch with reality they are.

“The Lib Dems are polling around the same percent they always get, so nothing special and nothing spectacular.

“We do not need an old party that aided in broken politics grandstanding, we need a new start for our democracy.”

One social media user took offence to the party’s decision to revoke Article 50 and said: “Jo Swinson is a disgrace to this country and a disgrace to democracy.

“Her and the Lib Dem party are trying to overturn the democratic referendum result from 2016, no deal, no problem on October 31.”
