Leeds train station CHAOS as trains cancelled and lines blocked after ‘incident’

Overhead wires have been switched off due to what is believed to be a trespasser on the line. Yorkshire Ambulance’s Hazardous Area Response Team is also in attendance at the scene. Lines were closed soon after 7am, and trains are expected to be disrupted until at least 12pm.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “All lines are currently blocked and trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.”

Passengers are told not to travel unless “absolutely necessary”.

Trains on Northern, Transpennine, LNER and CrossCountry services are affected.

Many trains are being diverted to York instead of Leeds, with buses transferring passengers back to Leeds.

Northern and London North Eastern operators are replacing some services with buses.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “At 7.03 officers were called to Leeds Station following concerns for a person in a precarious position.

“Officers are on the scene and working to bring this incident to a safe resolution as soon as possible.

“Rail services are currently disrupted. Passengers are advised to check with National Rail services before travelling.”

Police say the incident has now been resolved.

British Transport Police West Yorkshire said at 9.47am that a man on the tracks had been “successfully removed”.

They said: “Leeds station update: A man has now been safely removed from harms way.

“We are now working with @networkrail to resume train services as soon as possible.

“Thanks for your patience this morning whilst we worked. Hoping to get people moving again shortly.”

Shortly after the BTP confirmed the incident had been resolved.

They tweeted: “Incident at #LeedsRailwayStation now resolved.

“All involved agencies are in the process of trying to get everything back to normal running.

“Thanks again for all of your patience.”

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
