The guest, who is a vegan, couldn’t find anything suitable on the menu at Logan Rock Inn in rural Treen, Cornwall, last month. Although the customer was offered a salad sandwich, she declined and instead had a “boring portion of unhealthy chips”.
And in her review on TripAdvisor, the woman expressed her sadness.
She wrote: “As a vegan, there was nothing suitable for me on the menu. My husband and our friend ordered sandwiches and I asked if they could do a salad sandwich. No, was the reply from the guy behind the bar, so I ended up with a boring portion of unhealthy chips.
“How long would it have taken the chef to whip up a salad sandwich whilst making two others for our party? My husband and our friend had enormous piles of salad as a side with their sandwiches, so there was plenty available. Next visit I shall order a bread roll and a side salad and make my own!”
But Nick George, the pub’s owner, quickly fought back, reports Cornwall Live.
The landlord suggested the woman apply for one of three chef jobs he has at the 16th century pub.
He wrote: “Hi, thanks for your recent review! I’d like to know what the member of staff looked like and what day you visited please. That way I can get to the bottom of this issue. Also feel free to apply for one our 3 chefs jobs on offer as you seem pretty keen to work on our sandwich/salad counter.”
“My god I didn’t realise you were so precious.”
For the most part, TripAdvisor reviewers have given high praise to the eatery, with an overall website rating of 4 out of 5.
And Mr George has himself been applauded for the way he handles comments on the site.
One woman wrote on Facebook: “Good for you. Refreshing to hear this reply.”
Another regular shared: “If these are only the bad reviews this is pathetic, people need to get a grip it’s a lovely pub, in such a lovely area.”
A third posted: “Loving the comments from Nick! Can’t say I blame him.”
